Volunteering
If you want to volunteer we welcome all helpers but due to the risks involved with being around animals we have to set certain rules.
The basics are:
All volunteers (over 18 years old)have to undergo the health and safety induction and complete the relevant animal induction for the type of animal they wish to work with.
All volunteers under 18 years of age or who require support to enable them to volunteer must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult/carer at all times who has completed the health and safety induction and if volunteering via an organisation the organisation must be registered first (please see notes below.
Process for volunteering with the animals if you are attending via an organisation:
Please get the health and safety officer for the organisation to complete the ORGANISATIONAL VOLUNTEERING FORM and follow the instructions given on the form and then each support worker/ responsible adult over 18 years old must complete the PROCESS FOR VOLUNTEERING AS AN INDIVIDUAL.
Process for volunteering with the animals as an Individual:
Please fill in a INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEER FORM either here or from the Centre.
Then you need to read the HEALTH AND SAFETY PRESENTATION(pdf file) and complete the H&S quiz QUIZ & the HEALTH AND SAFETY INDUCTION FORM.
You then need to attend an induction for the animal you wish to help with (if dogs and cats you have to attend two inductions). The dog induction is usually held each Saturday at 10.30am and the cat one at the same time on a Sunday but please do not just turn up, you must of completed all the relevant paperwork and retruned it before you can undertake the induction/s and as we can only have six people per induction you need to admin@animalcare-lancaster.co.uk to request a place stating DOG INDUCTION OR CAT INDUCTION in the email along with your name and contact telephone number. We then advise you of a date we have available for you to attend an induction. Please always ring the day before the induction to double check there is definately one taking place. Full details are included in the information we send you once you have return the yellow volunteer form to us.
Process for all other types of volunteering (for example home checks, fundraising etc)
Please fill in the INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERING FORM and return to the centre and we will contact you with further details within three weeks.
Now follow the link to MORE VOLUNTEERING INFORMATION to find out the different ways in which you can help.
If you have any questions regarding volunteering please do not hesitate to email Vanessa or Faye at admin@animalcare-lancaster.co.uk or phone 01524 841819 (not for animal enquiries).
We look forward to you joining our team.
